Mental Health & Substance Use Education, Prevention and Early Intervention Services
UNCG is committed to providing our community with the knowledge, tools, and resources to support our community’s well-being and prevent barriers to success, however defined! Our Spartan Well-Beingprogram offers a variety of activities and support designed to promote a culture of care and help students Be Well. & Stay Well. Check SWB out & don’t miss out!
UNCG also offers substance use support in many different ways. Concerned about your substance use? Engage in an anonymous screeningto check up on your substance use and your mental health. Want to know more about your substance use and how it compares to your peers? Join us in a BASICS or CASICS program!
BASICS stands for Brief Alcohol Screening and Intervention for College Students. CASICS stands for Cannabis Screening and Intervention for College Students.
These programs are offered for all UNCG students who may want to explore their alcohol and drug use, but the goal of the program is to reduce risky behaviors and harmful consequences of alcohol or cannabis abuse. Contact Us: [email protected]
BASICS and CASICS are NOT “Just Say No” or abstinence-only. They are designed to assist students in examining their own choices in a judgment-free environment. The BASICS/CASICS facilitator* will provide objective feedback, based on an interview and questionnaires filled out by the student, to encourage positive changes in behavior. Essentially, BASICS/CASICS will provide the information and guidance, but what a student chooses to do is entirely up to them.
Who can join BASICS/CASICS?
Some students attend BASICS/CASICS to fulfill a university sanction or court order because of an alcohol or cannabis related offense, while others come because they have concerns about their alcohol or cannabis use. BASICS/CASICS is appropriate for anyone who uses alcohol or cannabis and is concerned about their use.
If a student chooses to participate in BASICS/CASICS to complete a university or court ordered requirement, we can provide documentation of program completion if a student signs a release of information form. We will not release any assessment results or personal information shared during the BASICS/CASICS appointment.
ItMatters is an interactive course designed to provide students with information, knowledge, skills and resources on topics that are often avoided or ignored, but that have a lot of influence on personal success as a student and in life.
Topics include Alcohol; Sexual Behaviors; Sexual Violence; Mental Health and Sleep Wellness.
UNC Greensboro is committed to providing a supportive learning environment and fostering safe, healthy relationships among our students.
If the modules are not completed by the deadline, a hold may be placed on your accounts for the next semester’s course enrollment.
Counseling & Psychological Services offers programming such as facilitating discussions, community support, and interactive presentations to promote positive mental health, education and training regarding mental health and substance use, and offer information about our services. Every member of the UNCG community plays an instrumental role in supporting students’ mental health, well-being and academic success. UNCG offers a series of suicide prevention and mental health trainings to build our collective knowledge, awareness and skills to prevent suicide and support mental health. It takes all of us to create a Culture of Care.
