It can be hard to get the help and support you need if you have a lot of questions about how things work. Hopefully, the answers to these Frequently Asked Questions can help you get the answers you need to get the help you deserve. If you have additional questions, please do not hesitate to give us a call (336-334-5874) or stop by (2nd floor counseling suite, Gove Student Health Center).

Counseling services are included in student tuition and the health fee. There are NO additional fees to access counseling services. However, missed appointments are charged a $25 no-show fee. To avoid no-show charges, please make sure to cancel/reschedule at least 24 hours in advance.

No! You do not need to use your health insurance to receive counseling at Counseling & Psychological Services.  Counseling services are included in student tuition and the health fee. There are NO additional fees to access counseling services.

Student Health Services medical clinic (link to their psychiatry page) offers medical evaluation and medication management for psychiatric medications, such as those for anxiety and depression.  In order to maintain access to psychiatry services for ALL students, regardless of insurance coverage, there is a charge for psychiatry services. The charge is significantly below charges in the community. These fees are covered 100% by Student Blue and may be covered out of network with other insurance carriers. You can also fill your prescriptions at the SHS Pharmacy!

Counseling & Psychological Services is all about access! We are here to help our students be successful.

We also have Rapid Access Services Monday through Friday, noon – 4 pm, and on-call services available 24/7 (336-334-5874).  Due to demand and staffing, students are not typically seen weekly for individual therapy (usually on a biweekly or triweekly basis); however, our groups, workshops and support spaces offer options to receive support and treatment weekly and sometimes even more often! For students needing specialized or more frequent services than those offered at UNCG, we help connect them to off-campus providers (link this to Thriving Campus). We currently even have a grant (link to grant) to financially support students who may need off-campus care.

Sometimes, a student will find that they don’t connect with their counselor.  To request to transfer to a new counselor, go to titaniumcaps.uncg.edu/TitaniumWeb/ and complete the “Request to Change Provider” form.  One of our staff members will reach out to you.

We are open and offer services all summer for enrolled students or grad students engaged in research activities. For students who were enrolled in spring semester and enrolled in fall semester, but not taking classes in the summer and therefore not paying tuition and fees, there is a small fee for each session during the summer.

Yes!  Grad students are eligible for all counseling and psychiatry services.  There are also groups and workshops geared towards graduate students.
