Recovery is “a process of change through which individuals improve their health and wellness, live a self – directed life, and strive to reach their full potential” (SAMHSA, 2012).
Spartan Recovery@UNCG believes that there are multiple pathways to recovery and encourages students to develop and maintain an active recovery and wellness plan.
Collegiate Recovery Programs are university-based recovery support services and programs that provide an abstinence-based environment. Collegiate Recovery Programs strive to create a “recovery friendly” space and supportive community while enhancing educational opportunities for students and encouraging a students’ recovery and emotional growth (ARHE, 2017).
Spartan Recovery@ UNCG is a program of Student Health Services Counseling Center that is available, free of charge, to UNCG students in all phases of recovery from addictions to alcohol and/or other drugs.
Spartan Recovery@UNCG is not a treatment program; rather, we focus on creating a network of recovery support services that promote the personal, academic, and professional goals of students in recovery.

Spartan Recovery @ UNCG nurtures social, academic, and professional success for people seeking or living in recovery by providing a welcoming and fun environment, individual and community support, and opportunities for growth.
Spartan Recovery @UNCG envisions a UNCG community supporting students, faculty and staff who are “sober curious” or in recovery to safely be their authentic selves as they find their way through academic life, while breaking down the stigma associated with mental health and substance abuse disorders through understanding and education.
