UNC Greensboro is now a JED Campus
UNC Greensboro is proud to announce its designation as a JED Campus, joining a distinguished network of higher education institutions committed to enhancing mental health awareness and resources available to students. UNCG leaders understand the direct impact that well-being has on student success and want to ensure all students have every opportunity to thrive as Spartans.
The JED Campus program, an initiative of the JED Foundation, is designed to support colleges and universities in creating a campus culture that promotes mental health and well-being. This designation underscores UNCG’s dedication to fostering a supportive environment that prioritizes the mental health of its student body.
“We are excited to collaborate with the JED Foundation to further strengthen our campus community and ensure that we have all of the support and safety nets available to our students,” said Cathy Akens, Vice Chancellor for Student Affairs. “We know our students are managing so much and so mental health and well-being is a subject we talk about openly and prioritize in the student experience.”

Student Voices Matter.
Healthy Minds Study survey
The Healthy Minds Network is one of the nation’s premier research organizations contributing to adolescent and young adult mental health. For 15 years, the network has administered the Healthy Minds Study (HMS) Survey, a population-level survey of post-secondary student mental health that provides a detailed look at the prevalence of mental health outcomes, knowledge and attitudes about mental health and service utilization. HMS emphasizes understanding help-seeking behavior, examining stigma, knowledge, and other potential barriers to mental health service utilization.
Over 850,000 responses from students at more than 600 colleges and universities have been gathered. UNCG has administered the HMS in 2012, 2016, and 2022. As part of becoming a JED Campus, the HMS will be administered again during the 2024-2025 academic year.

HMS SURVEY RESULTS

The JED Foundation’s mission is to protect emotional health and prevent suicide for our nation’s teens and young adults. The 4-year JED Campus Partnership improves support to:
- Enhance student mental health, substance misuse prevention, and suicide prevention
- Foster systematic change and strengthen existing support for student mental health with evidence based training, workshops, and resources

The HMS Survey results provide evidence that we prioritize student well-being. And that our students struggle with mental health and related issues.
