Description:   The grad student support group provides opportunities for support, community, connection and celebration.  Topics discussed in the group may include (but are not limited to) personal, professional, and family relationships, academic concerns and achievements, adjustment to grad school, stress, thriving, self-esteem/confidence, identity development (personal and professional), career issues, and social and cultural identities.  Informational screening is required.

Description:  For students who struggle with disordered eating, eating disorders, and body image concerns and seek to form a space and community to mindfully explore authenticity and body autonomy.

Description:  Feel sad, isolated, angry, stressed? Want to improve relationships and how you talk about your emotions? Men’s Group is a supportive space for men to connect and share about personal experiences.

Description:  A Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy (CBT) program designed to give college students with Attention-Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) the knowledge and skills necessary for academic, personal, and social success.

Location:       Student Health Services, Room 015

Description:  Restoring union with the body and reclaiming the body as one’s own through asana (poses) and dhyana (meditation) is the foundation of this group.  Coming back into the body is part of coming back into wholeness during trauma healing.  The time consists of guided meditation, minimal asana with positive self-affirmation, and time for sharing.  This group is intended for survivors of trauma.

Description:  Do you get overwhelmed by your emotions? Do you wish you had more strategies to cope with challenging emotions? Emotions can be confusing, frightening, or overwhelming when we don’t have the skills to navigate them. To survive, some of us have learned unhelpful methods to try and cope with our challenging emotions. This group teaches helpful skills in mindfulness, emotion regulation, distress tolerance, and interpersonal effectiveness to support you in effectively responding to your emotions.  Join us to learn and practice new skills to begin to build more emotional resilience!

Description:   A space to support students as they navigate complex family dynamics, including high conflict or violence in the family, emotionally unavailable caregivers, divorce or loss of a caregiver, and family members facing addiction or other mental health challenges. This group witll focus on practical ways to cope with complicated family dynamics and offer a space to try out new approaches to relationships in a supportive environment.

DescriptionThis weekly group welcomes all students who identify with or feel connected to Latinx/o/e experiences, regardless of nationality, racial/ethnic background, or other intersecting identities. Join a supportive space to build community, make connections, share resources and recharge. A willingness to engage and honor group members’ privacy are the only requirements to attend.

Description: Sista Talk is a support/discussion group to honor the experiences of Black female identified students, and to provide support around daily stressors, relationships, and other topics of interest.

 Description:  Survivor Space is a peer-based support group for survivors of all forms of interpersonal violence. If you have experienced harm by another person in the past, or you are currently experiencing harm by someone you know, this group is designed for you. Survivor Space uses empowered-choice making and community-based support as tools in a survivor’s healing journey. Topics covered in the group can include resilience building, boundary setting, healthy relationships, conflict management, and increasing self-esteem. The topics are driven by participants- we define what healing looks like for us. Drop-ins to this group are welcome. Description:    This is your chance to step away from the internet and go outside. This workshop will explore ways to enhance well-being through connection with the natural world. Activities will include practicing mindfulness, creating nature-based art, and growing edible plants.

Description:  Relationships can get complicated. This interactive one-hour workshop is designed to explore these misunderstood behaviors. Learn how to recognize the signs, understand the emotional impact, and develop healthy strategies.

DescriptionExperiences of mass and community violence impact us all. Natural disasters, mass shootings, threat of group harm in education spaces, and exposure to community violence are often overlook when thinking about our experiences of trauma. In this workshop we will build community, explore avenues of healing and increase hope for victims/survivors of mass violence. Description:  Let’s all write!  This is a workshop for those new to journaling and those who have experienced how powerful putting thoughts, feelings, and life experiences into the written word can be. This workshop is for those who would appreciate the accountability provided by journaling in a small group format. A weekly journal prompt will be given at the start of each workshop with an opportunity to process at the end. A journal will be provided for the first ten participants.

“Let’s Talk” is a drop-in service that offers informal, private consultation with a UNCG Counseling and Psychological Services counselor. 

Let’s Talk consultations are … 

  • FREE for UNCG students 
  • Offered first-come, first-served (no appointment necessary) 
  • Typically about 20-25 minutes in length 
  • Informal, and not a substitute for counseling 
  • Not appropriate for urgent concerns or mental health emergencies 

Let’s Talk is not a substitute for counseling and is not mental health treatment. Let’s Talk counselors can listen to specific problems, help explore solutions, and introduce you to what it’s like to speak with a member of our staff.
